Full course description

This course will provide an overview of concepts and practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion that is relevant to nurse leaders. We will explore how bias influences our impressions of others we work with or serve in the workplace, and how we respond to microaggressions we observe on the job. Participants will examine the work setting practices that affect all nurses—especially their access to information and their ability to support their careers.

Course Objectives

  • Discuss how implicit biases every individual holds affects how they make choices in the workplace.
  • Describe techniques used by upstanders to effectively address microaggressions in the workplace.
  • Distinguish between individual and institutional/systemic racism.
  • Analyze a workplace policy or practice that could produce inequities in how certain individuals can progress, succeed, advance in their nursing career.
