Full course description
As individuals, people have complex identities that shape how they experience the social world and how others see and interact with them. In Ways of Thinking: Identity Inequality, and Inclusion, instructor Chris Salituro, explores diverse identities and inequality in the United States, to deepen personal knowledge and encourage reflection about how to maximize equity and inclusion in personal and professional settings. Participants will delve into topics centered on identity within culture, ethnicity, religion, race, sex, sexuality, gender, class, and ability.
This course will provide an overview of diversity, equity, and inclusion as it relates to the healthcare workplace.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain how human nature and social dynamics play a role in creating societal inequalities.
- Recognize various ways individuals and groups in society identify (cultural, ethnic, religious, racial, sex, gender, sexuality, social class, ability, etc.).
- Analyze the impact personal identities have on how individuals and groups experience life in a society.
- Evaluate efforts to create a more inclusive society at the local, state, national, and/or international level.
Course Information
This course will have four live discussions. Live discussions are highly recommended. However, if you are unable to attend, an alternative task will be available. They will take place at the following times:
