It is imperative to understand the intersection of state and federal laws and how they apply to state level regulation. In Impact of Federalist Government on State Boards of Nursing, Rebecca Fotsch, JD will guide you through how to analyze and determine the implications of laws on a regulatory body’s jurisdiction.  

Within this course, you will familiarize yourself with the roles of the federal and state governments as they relate to healthcare and licensing, discuss how federal laws have been interpreted in the courts, applied to state agencies, and synthesize federalism concepts learned by critically analyzing the constitutionality of national nurse licensure. 

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the different ways federal and state laws relate to state level regulation by examining the roles of the federal government and state government as it relates to healthcare and licensing. 
  • Discuss how federal laws have been interpreted to apply to state agencies by reading and studying the federal constitution and Supreme Court cases. 
  • Analyze a recent federal law and apply the federal law to current state laws and regulations by illustrating how it would affect the agency.
