As individuals, people have complex identities that shape how they experience the social world and how others see and interact with them. In Ways of Thinking: Identity Inequality, and Inclusion, instructor Chris Salituro, explores diverse identities and inequality in the United States, to deepen personal knowledge and encourage reflection about how to maximize equity and inclusion in personal and professional settings. Learners will delve into topics centered on identity within culture, ethnicity, religion, race, sex, sexuality, gender, class, and ability.

This course will provide an overview of diversity, equity, and inclusion as it relates to the healthcare workplace.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, learners should be able to:

1. Explain how human nature and social dynamics play a role in creating societal inequalities.
2. Recognize various ways individuals and groups in society identify (cultural, ethnic, religious, racial, sex, gender, sexuality, social class, ability, etc.).
3. Analyze the impact personal identities have on how individuals and groups experience life in a society.
4. Evaluate efforts to create a more inclusive society at the local, state, national, and/or international level.
