This course introduces participants to the general principles of U.S. administrative law. Administrative agencies play essential roles in government, and they have specific legislative, executive, and judicial powers. The instructor will discuss these powers and roles, as applied to U.S. state and territorial occupational licensing boards, and the regulation of nursing practice. Participants will better understand the principles of judicial review, substantive due process and administrative rule making.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the participants should be able to:

Discuss the fundamental principles of administrative law.
Examine the enabling statute of regulatory board for a specific jurisdiction.
Explore the doctrine of due process as it relates to agency investigations, agency rule making and agency adjudication.
Define standards for judicial review of agency decisions.

Course Information

Introduction to Administrative Law for Regulators in the U.S. is suggested for U.S. participants but is open to all who are interested. For Canadian Administrative Law, please see Introduction to Administrative Law for Regulators in Canada.

This course will have three live discussions. Live discussions are highly recommended, but not required. They will take place at the following times:
