Credible Health Information, Hoaxes and the Media is a 15-minute online short course that will give you some tools for leveraging the trust the public places in nurses and other health care workers to relay credible health information to your patients and their families during a health crisis.

Objectives

  1. Participants will recognize that the people choose media that fit their views, presenting a challenge for reaching some with credible information during a health crisis.
  2. Participants will review and interpret communication research that offers best practices and recommendations for communicating credible information with the public during a health crisis.
  3. Participants will be prepared to create a multichannel communication strategy for disseminating credible information and for combating hoaxes.

Instructor: Sherri Ter Molen, PhD, MA is an associate in Nursing Regulation at the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and the Journal of Nursing Regulation’s acquisitions editor. She has taught communication courses at DePaul University and Wayne State University, and she has 25 years of experience in the communication arts, including broadcasting and marketing.
